Comanche Band earns Sweepstakes at Concert, Sight-Reading Contest
All three Shiner concert bands earned sweepstakes at the Region 18/26 UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Evaluation!
All three groups rehearsed three concert pieces and prepared for the sight-reading portion of the evaluation.
Bands were given a rating based on their performance for both portions of the contest.
Ratings that a band could earn consists of a 1 rating – Superior, 2 rating – Excellent, 3 rating – Average, 4 rating – Below Average, and a 5 rating - Poor.
The seventh grade band earned a 1-1-2 on stage for an overall Superior rating, and a 1-1-1 in Sight-Reading for an overall Superior rating.
The Concert Band received a 1-1-1 on stage for an overall Superior rating, and they earned a 1-1-1 rating in Sight-Reading for an overall Superior rating.
The Symphonic Band received a 1-1-1 rating on stage for an overall Superior rating, and a 1-1-1 rating in Sight-Reading for an overall Superior rating.
Because both high school bands earned a division 1 rating in November for marching band, the Concert Band and Symphonic Band earned a Sweepstakes trophy.
In order to earn this, the band had to receive an overall Superior rating in Marching, Concert, and Sight-Reading.
“We are very proud of all of the performing groups and we are pleased with their progress through our contest season,’’ said Zach Sims, band director. "Thank you to all of the parents, family, and community members for your overwhelming support of our band program."
