There was a special kind of magic in the air on Sunday afternoon as 17 extraordinary contestants graced the stage for the Miss Sparkle Special Needs pageant, an event infused with warmth, joy, and a radiant sense of community.
Under the thoughtful direction of creator and co-founder Dallyn Pesek, this pageant was far more than just a showcase of beauty—it was a celebration of individuality, courage, and the unique talents of each participant.
“Our goal is to provide more opportunities like these for individuals with special needs to be able to participate in,” shared Pesek in her opening remarks. “Today and everyday we should celebrate our differences and the beauty in all of us.”
Pesek set the tone for the event with heartfelt opening remarks, emphasizing the importance of opportunities like these to recognize and honor the beauty in our differences. Her words echoed through the Cuero Performing Arts Venue, reminding everyone present that the essence of the day was about embracing and celebrating the diversity that makes each person truly special.
The event was supported by the royal courts from Shiner, Yoakum, Schulenburg, Hallettsville, Victoria, and Cuero, who graciously volunteered as Contestant Buddies. These young women not only assisted the contestants throughout the day but also played a vital role in the crowning ceremony, embodying the spirit of camaraderie and support that the pageant sought to promote.
Emcee Jamie Chumchal, a Shiner native, brought her poise and expertise to the stage, ensuring that each contestant had their moment to shine. Her introductions were filled with warmth and respect, allowing the participants to express themselves freely, whether through song, dance, or storytelling.
Judges Abby Pesek and Cindy Rodriguez had the amazing task of interviewing and evaluating the contestants across categories of active wear, talent, and evening wear. Their genuine appreciation for each participant was evident as they awarded crowns, sashes, and medals, ensuring that every contestant felt like a winner.
The talent portion of the pageant was a highlight, with a wide array of performances that showcased the creativity and passion of the contestants. Zosha Halbrook’s baton twirling, Kelsey Rohde’s original jazz dance, Paisleigh Hogan’s interpretive dance, and Jessica Shank’s storytelling were just a few of the memorable moments that filled the venue with applause and admiration.
Singers like Elizabeth Gunderlach, Raegan Robertson, Rylee Robeterson, Ella Jenson, Emma Kubala, Macy Svec, Ruby Rosales, and Samantha Trivino brought their voices to the stage, each performance a testament to their bravery and talent.
The male escorts, including Holden Jacobs, Cody Malinovsky, Gus Collins, Zeke Rodriguez, and Beck Zimmerman, demonstrated not only their chivalry but also their deep respect for the contestants.
Their gentle guidance, whether twirling the ladies’ center stage or helping them navigate the stage with care, was a moving display of kindness and support, adding to the day’s overall atmosphere of acceptance and love.
Special recognition was also given to the Cuero Theater Department students, The Bridal Rail in Moulton for providing beautiful dresses, and the many volunteers who worked tirelessly behind the scenes. Their contributions were essential to the success of the event, ensuring that every contestant felt supported and celebrated.
In closing, Dallyn Pesek’s final words resonated with the audience: “These contestants are strong and amazing. I look up to each one of them and admire all they have done. To their parents, I appreciate all you have done. I know it takes a lot of time and dedication on your part and your example of love is truly special.”
Her sentiments captured the heart of the Miss Sparkle Special Needs pageant—a day of joy, admiration, and a community coming together to celebrate the extraordinary individuals who inspire us all.
