Sts. Cyril and Methodius Parish gears up for Annual Fall Picnic
The Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church is gearing up for its annual Fall Picnic on Sunday, September 1 at the KC Park.
The Fall Picnic is celebrating its 103rd year and Father Bryan Heyer encourages everyone to attend and have a good time.
“This is such a huge affair and is a homecoming celebration for so many,” Heyer said. “It’s a good day trip and is a day that has very affordable food and kid’s games. It’s a quick trip from the big cities and is a great time for folks to enjoy small-town clean fun.”
Heyer said it’s such a blessing to host these picnics.
“This is wonderful,” Heyer said. “It’s always an important aspect of our parish. Not only does it help us financially as a fundraiser, but it’s also an opportunity for the parish to get together and do the work together. It’s a lot of work and requires a lot of people that give up their time and effort. It’s a way for us to show forth what our parish is about.
We have thousands of people that come throughout the day and it’s a way for us to evangelize and show forth our faith and the joy of our faith in celebrating these picnics.”
The Fall Picnic begins with the country store opening in the morning at 8 a.m. Kolaches, pigs-in-a-blanket, as well as canned and baked goods will be available.
Dinner plates will be served beginning at 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the KC Hall. Drive thru plates to go will be served at Kaspar Pavilion in Green Dickson Park from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
“We sell around 5,000 plates every year,” Heyer said. “Plates will include three meats (fried chicken, picnic stew and sausage), potatoes, sauerkraut, green beans, dessert and a tea. You get all of that for $15.”
The big country auction will begin at 12:30 p.m. and cattle auction at 3 p.m.
There will be kid’s games outside and a cake walk as well. Bingo will begin at 3 p.m.
“There will be hamburgers in the afternoon as well and the day will end with a dance featuring the Emotions that begins in the evening around 9 p.m.,” Heyer said.
“We’ll also have a variety of music playing throughout the day. That includes country music, contemporary music, German music, polka music, and a little bit of everything.”
This year’s top raffle prize is a 2024 Kawasaki Mule with a 12 ft. utility trailer. Tickets can be purchased at the parish rectory, NAPA Auto Parts - Paul’s Supply, Shiner, and Patek Grocery & Market. The church sells about 3,000 tickets every year according to Heyer.
“We’ve been preparing for this for the last month,” Heyer said. “We’re really excited for this picnic. If anyone would like to donate auction items or the cost of the meal, it would be greatly appreciated.”
