YEDC approves Annual Report

By Clayton Kelley

The Yoakum Economic Development Corporation (YEDC) approved the Annual Report for the Yoakum City Council at the Oct. 21 meeting.

“It’s basically a summary of decisions that were made by the board last year,” YEDC Director Genora Young said. “This includes what grants were approved. It’s a summary of the year and it’s the board’s commitment to the strategic plan and what we’re looking at moving forward and what the priorities are for the next fiscal year.”

This report is due to City Council by Nov. 30, so the board is ahead of schedule.

The board also considered amendments to future YEDC grant programs.

“The real value in the report (given to YEDC about these programs) is that he gave us a summary and analyzed our grant programming and offered some suggestions,” Young said.

One of the things the YEDC may do is put their grant applications online.

There was an update given at the meeting on the YEDC’s new website as well.

“All the bios are uploaded on the website,” Young said. “There’s some photos that I may want changed on there as well.”

Other items on the agenda include:

• Director of Finance Debbie Gray submitted the last financial report for fiscal year 2024. Within that reported, it was shown that YEDC extended the grant deadline for six months for the Bulldog Beautification Project. The project is something the Student Council at the Yoakum Independent School District has been working on for over a year. It includes sprucing up the school.

• YEDC still has outstanding funds to the Oak Grove Cemetery.

• There will be a joint City Council and YEDC meeting Monday, Nov. 18 at 5:15 p.m. Prior to that, the regular YEDC meeting will be at 4 p.m. that same day. Conversations will be had on the Industrial Park II project and the YEDC’s strategic plan.
