Annabell "Ann" Garbade
Annabell “Ann” Seifert Garbade was born on September 9, 1945 outside Moulton, to the late Allen and Lillie Pavlas Seifert of Shiner. She graduated in 1963 from Shiner High School. She married her love of 50 years William “Bill” Garbade on May 29, 1965. Annabell was then the first member of her family to graduate from college receiving a Bachelor’s Degree of Education from Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos in 1967. Annabell passed away from an aggressive form of cancer on Tuesday, July 9, 2024.
Annabell started her first year of teaching in Seguin, where William got his first job with the Texas Highway department. After getting drafted for Vietnam the Garbade’s headed to Salinas, CA for six months before Annabell moved back to Shiner to teach while William was in Vietnam. Upon return from Vietnam the young couple moved back to Seguin to continue William’s career and start their family. William’s work then took them to Pearsall, San Antonio, and finally Round Rock.
Annabell was a proud and huge supporter of her husband’s career and loved being the wife of an engineer who built the roads and bridges across Texas. She was a very involved mother whether it was sewing costumes for choir concerts, attending sporting events, cooking great meals for her family, or teaching her children to drive. She was a woman of great faith and a lifelong member of the Catholic Church in all the cities she lived in. Over the years she was a member of the Altar Society and taught Mother’s Day Out at Saint William where she was a member for the last 37 years and an active member of the Ladies Guild.
Annabell had many interests outside of being a wife and mother. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, watching all sports as well as Hallmark movies. She loved to buy cards from Hallmark and send them to all her loved ones. Annabell enjoyed reading ‘the Shiner Gazette’ every week. Annabell and Bill loved to travel both the US and internationally. Their last trip together was to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a river cruise down the Rhine in Europe. Annabell loved attending events for her four grandchildren who she was fortunate to live nearby. She also loved catching up with all her extended Seifert and Pavlas family members especially at the annual family reunions.
Annabell is survived by her daughters, Amy Garbade of Cedar Park and LeAnne Simpson and husband Blaine of Georgetown; son, Brad Garbade and wife Melissa of Cedar Park; grandchildren, Katelyn and Hunter Simpson and Gracie and Wyatt Garbade; brother, Al Seifert and wife Diane; sister, Mary Heiman and husband Joe; sister-in-law, Mrs. Joann (Harvey) Seifert; the Frankie and Patsy Mikes family; brother-in-law, David Garbade; and all her beloved nieces and nephews. Ann cherished all her friends and neighbors, many of whom visited her during her last months. Their visits meant the world to her. She knew she was loved.
Annabell was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, William Garbade, in 2016; her parents; in-laws; brother, Harvey Seifert; sister and brother-in-law, Patsy and Frankie Mikes; and nephews, Robert Mikes and Gary Mikes.
