Cecilie Zissa

Cecilie Elizabeth Zissa, 100, passed away Saturday, December 7, 2024. 
She was born on November 5, 1924 in Shiner, to John V. Orsak and Bertha Eicher Orsak. She married Lebert Zissa on November 22, 1950, in Yoakum. Cecilie was a member of Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church.
Cecilie earned her BSN and served as a Registered Nurse from 1943 to 1989, starting in the Southern Pacific Railroad Hospital and finally retiring from Rosewood Hospital, all in Houston.
She was a true Texas woman as she went from the demanding job of nursing to cattle ranching where she has been celebrated for her successes in both fields.
She is survived by her sons, David l. Zissa and Richard J. Zissa and wife Sharon; grandchildren, Andie Zissa, Alex Babcock (Chase), Lacy Fontenot, and Danielle Fontenot; and one great-grandchild, Jade Zissa. 
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lebert Zissa; her parents; brother, Adolph Orsak; and sister, Agnes Machicek.
The family will receive friends from 1 - 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 11 at Shiner Funeral Home, with prayers of the Holy Rosary followed by the Liturgy Outside of Mass beginning at 2 p.m. 
Interment will be held in the St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery. 
Memorial contributions may be made to Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in the form of Funeral Mass requests.
