Dorothy Louise Ehler

Dorothy Louise Ehler, lifelong resident of Hallettsville, passed away on Friday, June 4, 2024, at the age of 95.
She was born on Jan. 6, 1929 to Leonard and Marie Davenport Bonorden.
She graduated from HHS in 1946, and in 1947 she married Henry “Bootsie” Ehler. They raised three children, Deborah, Henry “Bud”, and David in a loving, nurturing, joyous household.
In 1960, Bootsie and Dorothy took a risk and founded Ehler’s Furniture Store, that is still in operation today.
Dorothy served as a board member of Friench Simpson Memorial Library for 30 years, and was a charter member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She was very active at St. Peter Lutheran Church, where she was on the church council, taught Sunday School, and served on the worship commission and chancel committee.
She greatly enjoyed tending her flower beds, reading, playing games, and spending time at Huckleberry, the family camp house. In her later years, she particularly enjoyed her morning coffee group.
Dorothy will be remembered as always loving and steadfast to her children and their spouses, David and Paula Ehler, Bud Ehler and Pam Bostwick, and Deborah Ehler and Jim Brainard. Dorothy’s beloved grandchildren are Brian Ehler (Lara), Ben Ehler (Meredith), and Rachel Ehler (Mark Franklin), and step-grandchildren, Bob Brainard (Kristen Manies) and Andy Brainard. Dorothy took great pleasure in her great-grandchildren, Camille, Camden, and Callahan Ehler, Barrett Ehler, and Tyler, Riley and Jade Brainard. She is also survived by a brother, Bobby Bonorden, and a sister, Ellen Denman. Dorothy was Aunt Dot to many nieces and nephews and their families. She will be greatly missed by her many friends and all her family.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bootsie;  two brothers, Harold Dean and Leonard Jr, and two infant daughters, Martha and Susan.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Friench Simpson Memorial Library, Hallettsville Fire Department, or St. Jude’s Childrens’ Research Hospital. The family requests that there be no food donations due to dietary restrictions.
