Edwin E. Winn

Edwin Earl Winn, passed away on Sunday, October 27, 2024 at the age of 95 years (and 10 months) old.
He was born on January 19, 1929, in Trent, Tx. Edwin was the son of Ola Lee and Raymond Hosea Winn. Edwin graduated from Trent High School in May of 1947 and then went on to earn several college degrees including a Bachelor Science from Sam Houston State Teachers College in May of 1955 and a Master of Education from Southwest Texas State College in August of 1967. He married Jean Ellen on August 23, 1963 and they were married 52 years before her passing in 2014.
He worked as a teacher, coach and counselor from 1955 - 1990 for Pottsville, TX, Trent, TX, Eola, TX, Earth, TX, Shiner (1955-1973) and Hays CISD from 1974 -1990. He was Scoutmaster for Shiner Boy Scouts Troop #231 for ten years. 
He mentored, guided, and encouraged so many students to always believe in themselves and to never doubt they could do whatever they set their minds to. Not only did he reach students with his kindness and helping ways, but everyone he ever had the pleasure of meeting. He will always be remembered by many as the former Mayor of Kyle (aka Mayor Ed or Mayor Winn.)
He enjoyed gardening, traveling, camping, reading, crosswords, playing cards and other games, but mostly he enjoyed time with his family. His door was always open for anyone in need of an ear to listen or a shoulder to lean on. He will be greatly missed by everyone that had the opportunity to meet him.
He is survived by son, Bryan Douglas Winn and wife Sharon; daughters, Wendalyn (Wendy) Jean Polk and husband Donnie, and Cynthia (Cyndy) Lee Winn. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Travis Winn, Ashley Winn, Hannah Winn, John Winn, Anthony Winn, Megan Webber Polk, Andrea Winn, Haley Polk and Angela Winn; as well as eight great-granchildren, Jeremy, Danika, Zoey, Weston, Hyder Ray, Remy, Nathan and Kash. He is also survived by his current wife, Elizabeth.
Edwin was predeceased by father, Hosea; mother, Ola Lee; wife, Jean Ellen Winn; sons, Robert Earl, John Raymond and Michael Ray; and grandson, Jason Darrell.
Visitation will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 9 at Harrell Funeral Home in Kyle.
A memorial service will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday, November 9 at Harrell Funeral Home in Kyle, with the Rev. Hal Scott officiating. 
A small reception will follow at the Kyle Methodist Church. 
Burial will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, November 17 at Shiner Cemetery, with a reception to follow at the Spoetzl Brewery in Shiner.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Harrell Funeral Home, Kyle.
