Elizabeth Ann Joy Peters
Elizabeth Ann Joy Peters, 81, of Hallettsville, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2024, after a lengthy hospital stay in Austin. Her two children, Libbie and Gary were at her side when the Good Lord called her to a better place.
She was born to Omer and Opal Joy on Feb. 17, 1943, in Fort Wayne Indiana, the youngest of 10 children.
While still a youth, Elizabeth moved with her parents to Corpus Christi. There she met and married her spouse, Alfonse R. Peters. They were married for 60 years before his death on Oct. 30, 2020.
Elizabeth was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved animals. In her life, she had several house dogs that filled her day with much love and companionship. She found friendship after the death of her husband with a group of friends who regularly had coffee at Brookshire Brothers grocery store.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband, Alfonse Peters (Sonny); her parents, Omer and Opal, and eight siblings as well.
Elizabeth is survived by her daughter, Libbie Tobola (Donnie) of Smithville; son, Gary Peters (Jennifer) of Shiner; five granddaughters, Vicki Tobola, Ashley Frerich (Charles), Brittney Tobola, Stevie-Nicole Peters and Sarah Guererro (Manuel); grandson Elliott J. Peters; five great-grandchildren, J.D. Young, Kylie Williams, Easton Zimmerhanzel, Hillary and Harley Cockrell; and brother, Lee Joy and his family of Pierceton, Indiana.
A special thank you to St. David’s Hospital of Austin who took such good care of Elizabeth while she was entrusted to them.
Visitation began at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 10 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hallettsville. Rosary was recited at 2 p.m.
Funeral Mass was celebrated at 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Rev. Rev. Michael Rother officiated.
Burial followed at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Church, St. David’s Hospital in Austin or a charity of donor’s choice.
Guests were invited to St. Mary’s parish hall to share memories afterwards.
