Lydia Claybrook
With profound sorrow, we announce the passing of Lydia Claybrook, a beacon of wisdom, strength, and love.
Born on Oct. 14, 1935, in Komensky, her life was a testament to an unwavering spirit. Lydia transitioned peacefully on March 3, 2024.
As the American author Mark Twain once said, "The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why." For Lydia, her purpose was deeply rooted in her passion for knowledge, a legacy she leaves for us to emulate.
Lydia's journey was an embodiment of constant learning and growth. Her love for reading was infectious, leading her through classics, mysteries, and even the entire Encyclopedia Britannica. Her thirst for knowledge was not confined to the realm of literature. She was an accomplished mathematician, often engaging in math competitions, and was a proud member of the Moulton Bobkatz Girls Basketball team that clinched the regional championship during her high school years.
Lydia carried her passion for learning into her adult life as well, enrolling at the University of Texas in Austin to study Chemistry and Biology. Her intellectual journey took her from Moulton to Austin, and finally to Eagle Pass, where she established her home and left an indelible impact on the community.
Lydia is survived by her steadfast son, Glen Claybrook, and cherished daughter-in-law, Barbara Claybrook. She also leaves behind her sister-in-law, Charly Ann Motal and many treasured nieces and nephews.
Lydia was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Claybrook, and her nurturing parents, Adolph and Konstantina Kocian Motal, and her six brothers, Theo, Adolph, Ben, George, Jerry and Innocence John Motal. In the words of the poet Maya Angelou, "People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." Lydia's memory will live on in the hearts of those she touched, her spirit encapsulated in her love for learning and her unyielding strength.
Visitation for Lydia will be held on Monday, April 15, beginning at 9 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Praha with a rosary being recited at 9:30 a.m. and Mass at 10 a.m.
Interment will follow in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Mary's Cemetery Fund, St. Mary's Church, or St. Mary's Restoration Fund.
