Matthew Kevin Michalke
Matthew Kevin Michalke, affectionately known by all as Rusty, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Thursday, June 27, 2024, at the age of 68.
Born on May 3, 1956, in Hallettsville, Rusty was a beacon of light and laughter to all who knew him. He spent his final days surrounded by loved ones in Midway.
Rusty was a man of great character, known for his loving nature, selfless spirit, and friendly demeanor. He dedicated 38 wonderful years to his beloved wife, Danette Michalke who survives him. Together they raised two sons, Chad Jalufka and Chantan Michalke, who, along with his daughter-in-law, Katy Michalke, first granddaughter, Harper Michalke and nephew, Wesley Michalke, carry on his legacy of kindness and devotion.
A proud graduate of Hallettsville High School, Rusty went on to study his skills and work ethic as a maintenance welder, a profession that benefited from his meticulous attention to detail and steadfast reliability. He was respected among his colleagues and known for his willingness to lend a hand whenever needed.
Outside of work, Rusty was an avid pool player, relishing the challenge of the game as much as the camaraderie found around the pool table. He cherished these moments with friends, often accompanied by a cold beer and good natured banter. His love for life was evident in these simple pleasures, as well as in the countless hours he spent with his family, who were his world.
Rusty was preceded in death by his parents, Leeroy and Johnetta Michalke, and his brother, Andrew Michalke. His passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew him, but his warmth and generosity will forever be remembered.
As we bid farewell to Rusty, we celebrate a life lived with purpose and joy. His impact on the lives he touched was profound, and his memory will continue to inspire us all. Rusty’s story is not of sorrow but of love, friendship, and the beautiful tapestry of moments that make up a life well-lived.
Rest in peace, Rusty. Your spirit lives on in the laughter of your friends, the strength of your family, and the countless lives you’ve touched with your extraordinary heart. Your journey on this earth was a testament to the beauty of a simple, loving life, and you will be dearly missed.
