Milton Marvin Mika

Milton Marvin Mika, 74, of Hallettsville, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 12.
He was born in Hallettsville to Edward John Mika and Alma Haas Mika on June 10, 1950.
Milton graduated from Yoakum High School in May 1969 and enlisted with the United States Army.  He served in the Army as a Communications Specialist and was honorably discharged in May 1975.  He is a Vietnam Veteran.
Milton settled in his hometown of Hallettsville.  He was well-known to many in the community for his kindness, smile, and unwavering sense of humor.  Many were even fortunate enough to enjoy the many jokes he was sure to tell, several more than once.  Although he was capable of driving, he chose to walk many places in town and was fond of stopping in for visits and having conversations with many.
For a long time, he volunteered his time as the “unofficial” traffic, pick up patrol at Solid Rock Christian Center for Learning, where he was known as “Mr. Milton”.  The joy he found in seeing and interacting with the children, parents, and staff was heartwarming.  More than anything, he loved his daughter and family, especially his grandson, and it was apparent anytime he spoke of them.  He was Dad, Pops, Milton, and to most, even “Moon”.
Milton is survived by his  daughter, Kayla Sralla and husband, Dustin of Hallettsville; grandson, Liam Sralla; sister, Irene Dunn of Fort Worth; brothers, Jerry Mika and wife, Mary of Hallettsville, Leroy Mika and wife, Teri of Tennessee.
Milton was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Edward Mika and Eugene Mika.
Visitation began at 4 p.m. and continued until 6 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 20 at Kubena Funeral Home in Hallettsville.
The funeral service was held at 10 a.m., Monday, Oct. 21 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in  Hallettsville. Pastor Jared Stillions officiated.
Fellowship followed in the Fellowship Hall.
In lieu of flowers, please send memorial donations to Solid Rock Christian Center for Learning, 100 N. Promenade St. in Hallettsville.
