Lady Squaws sweep Lady Bulldogs in second round

    The Yoakum High School (YHS) Lady Bulldogs played Jourdanton in the area-round series, falling in two games to conclude the season.

    YOAKUM 2, JOURDANTON 13

    Olivia Fojt hit a home run, scored two runs, and had an RBI while Madilynn Steinmann got two hits, double and RBI. Destiny Rios went 2-for-2 as Yoakum came up short 13-2 in the opener May 2 in Jourdanton.

    The game was 1-1 after one inning, Jourdanton took a 6-0 lead after two innings and outscored the Lady ‘Dogs 6-1 in the third frame.

    Jourdanton added one run in the the fourth inning.

    Hannah Schultz started at pitcher, gave up one hit, one run and one walk; Hannah Schultz worked 2 1/3 innings, yielded three runs on seven hits with four walks and one strikeout. Steinmann finished things 1 2/3 innings, three hits five runs and eight walks.

    Lexi Zaruba had five putouts in the field.

    JOURDANTON 6, YOAKUM 2

    Yoakum gathered just four hits and the Lady Squaws completed the sweep with a 6-2 win in Yoakum on May 3.

    Jourdanton scored one run in the first inning and two in the third for a 3-0 lead before going up 6-0 after three and hald innings.

    Yoakum scored twice in the bottom of the fourth.

    Macie Blakeney hit 1-for-2, double and one run with Madisen Grant going 1-for-2, double and two RBI.

    Fojt pitched 4 2/3 innings, six runs, seven hits, four walks and four strikeouts.

    Zaruba had 11 putouts on defense.
