Major League baseball red open with two lopsided victories

CUERO – The Hallettsville Major League All Star Red routed their first two opponents in District the 31 East Zone Tournament.

Hallettsville took an 18-2 opening round win over Gonzales in three innings Saturday with a 15-hit attack.

Easton Clark worked the first 1.2 innings, walked three and struck out five.

Ty Rother pitched the final 1.1 innings and gave up both Gonzales runs, one hit, three walks and fanned two.

Rother had a big hand in the offense with three hits in four plate appearances with two doubles, five runs batted in and one run.

Luke Meinkowsky (double, three runs), Konnor Chance (two RBI, three runs), Owen Jansky (RBI three runs) and Charles Strode (two RBI) all had two hits.

Ryan Kalmus doubled and scored two runs; Tanner Pustka was onefor-two with two runs scored; Myles Kalmus singled in two runs; Braxton Hearn singled and scored two runs. The All Stars scored eight runs in the first inning.

Myles Kalmus and Luke Meinkowsky combined for a four inning no- hitter in Sunday’s victory.

Hallettsville had eight hits and were aided by five Cuero errors.

Myles Kalmus pitched the first two frames and allowed a walk and recorded four strikeouts.

Meinkowsky struck out four, allowed one base on balls and struck out four.

Konnor Chance had the only multi-hit game with two base hits, two RBI and a run.

Alex Grahmann had the only extra base hit in the game, a triple. He scored two runs and drove in one.

Five other All Stars hit safely.

Braxton Hearn (three RBI), Owen Jansky, Luke Meinkowsky (RBI, run scored), Myles Kalmus (run, RBI)and Easton Clark (run, RBI) all had base hits.

Hallettsville led 6-0 before salting the game away with four runs in the fourth inning.
