Moulton girls basketball: Kittens place third at Port Aransas Tournament

The Moulton girls basketball team went 2-2 and finished third in the Port Aransas Tournament Nov. 21-23. Audrey Swinford was named to the All-Tournament team and Araceli Vasquez was named the three-point champion.
Moulton 59, Fayetteville 15
The Kittens got off to a sizzling start with a 27-7 run in the first frame and did not let up, downing Fayetteville 59-15 Nov. 21 to open the tournament.
Moulton outscored the Lady Lions 12-5 in the second quarter for a 39-12 halftime lead. They outscored Fayetteville 7-2 in the third box and went on a 13-1 run in the fourth stanza.
Audrey Swinford led Moulton with 14 points; Addison Simper hit two triples and netted 12 points while Araceli Vasquez scored 11 points and one tres.
Scotti Beseda led the Lady Lions with nine points.

With a 30-30 score going into the fourth quarter, the host Lady Marlins went on a 23-7 run to win 53-48 later on Nov. 21 for the Kittens’ second game.
The score was 9-9 after the first frame and Port Aransas went on a 14-9 run for a 23-18 halftime lead. Moulton returned the favor by outscoring the Lady Marlins 12-7 in the third quarter.
Swinford paced the Kittens with 19 points and a triple; Simper bagged 17 points. Brooke Jones led the Lady Marlins and all scorers with 27 points including four triples.

Swinford recorded a dozen points as the Kittens fell to Johnson City 41-29 on Nov. 22.
The Lady Eagles led 12-8 after the first quarter and outscored Moulton slightly 8-6 in the second period.
Johnson City led 30-21 after the third box and outscored Moulton 11-8 in the final eight minutes.
Chloe Clark led the Lady Eagles with 13 points.

Vasquez hit four triples and scored 20 points while Swinford deposited 13 points in the Kittens 40-23 win over Orange Grove on Nov. 23 to close out the tournament
The Kittens started well with an 8-2 lead after the first quarter and outscored Orange Grove 10-9 in the second period for a 18-11 halftime lead.
Moulton went on a 15-8 run in the third box and scored seven of 11 points in the fourth.
Abby Cole netted 11 points to lead Orange Grove.

The Kittens beat Kenedy 44-37 on the road Nov. 19.
The Kittens took a 17-9 lead after the first frame and Kenedy went on a 12-10 run to cut Moulton’s led to 27-21 at halftime. The teams split 14 points in the third and Moulton scored 10 of 19 points in the fourth frame.
Moulton 59, Ganado 22
The Kittens held Ganado to just 22 points in a 59-22 rout at home on Nov. 26.
Moulton led 11-2 after the first quarter and Ganado went on an 11-10 run to trim Moulton’s led to 21-13 at halftime.
The Kittens went on an 18-8 run in the third quarter and only ceded one point in a 20-1 run in the final eight minutes.
