Shiner Little League: Little League update: 8-year-old softball, baseball fall short in tournament games
YOAKUM — Shiner 8-year-old softball team grabbed the early lead but could not hang on to it.
The Shiner played Hallettsville in their third game of the Special East Zone Tournament June 4 in Yoakum, coming up short 8-3.
To start the game, Vivienne McDonald got a one-out single and Adella Davis followed up with a hit.
Both runners later scored on passed balls to put Shiner ahead 2-0.
Hallettsville answered in the bottom of the innings, scoring four runs on four hits and getting two batters on via hit by pitch.
Shiner pulled things to one run as Kyhlee Garza got a leadoff double before taking third on Kelby Farmer’s hit and advanced home on the throw on the same play.
Hallettsville got a double among five hits in the bottom of the second inning to bring home another four runs.
Shiner got one hit in the third inning and Hallettsville collected three but neither team got a run in.
Hallettsville kept Shiner from scoring in the top of the fourth to conclude the game.
Gonzales 10, Shiner 8
Gonzales rallied from 6-5 down after two innings to edge Shiner 10-8 on June 5 to end Shiner’s season.
Gonzales opened the game with five runs and Shiner plated four runs in the bottom of the inning.
After keeping Gonzales off the scoreboard in the second inning, Shiner scored twice to take a one-run lead at 6-5.
Gonzales plated five runs in the top of the third inning to grab a 10-6 lead. Shiner scored one run in the bottom of the inning and then brought in one run in the fourth inning, fighting until the end.

Shiner fell short to Cuero 3-0 June 1 in the Special East Zone Tournament and dropped. a close game 3-2 to Lockhart on June 3 to conclude their season.
