St. Paul football: Muenster Sacred Heart wins rematch against Cardinals in Catholic Bowl

Jacob Wachsmuth completed three passes for 118 yards and two touchdowns, a 48-yarder to Charlie Pilat and 60 yards to Brayden Slaughter, who added a touchdown on the ground but the Cardinals fell short to Muenster Sacred Heart 30-20 Saturday night at the Dallas Cowboys’ Star Facility in Frisco during the third game of the Catholic Bowl.
Zane Barta led the ground attack with 57 yards on 13 carries as St. Paul was held to under 150 yards rushing.
The Tigers opened scoring with 9:01 left in the first quarter on a 23-yard run by Gus Ganzon and Ryan Swirczysnki scored on a two-point run.
St. Paul got within 8-6 on the touchdown pass from Wachsmuth to Pilat and the two-point conversion failed. Swirczysnki scored on a 26-yard run in the third frame and passed to Ganzaon for a 16-6 lead.
Three seconds into the fourth, Slaughter scored on a 2-yard run and Sacred Heart stopped the two-point play to be up 16-12.
Muenster went ahead 24-12 with a Swirczysnki 3-yard run and another two-point play.
The Cardinals answered quickly on the long pass from Wachsmuth to Slaughter and Pilat caught the two-point pass to get within 24-20 with 5:05 left in the game. Swirczysnki scored on a 34-yard run at the 2:23 mark but the Tigers did not the two-point conversion.
