Two new Scouts attain Eagle rank

Members of Shiner BSA Troop 231 celebrated the two newest Eagle Scouts in Shiner.  On April 30, 2022, an Eagle Court of Honor was held to honor Travis Oren Thibodeaux and John Dalton Patton achieving the rank of Eagle Scout.
Patrick Klozik, Marshall Bishop, Chris Thibodeaux, Rutty DeCou, Dalton Patton, Travis Thibodeaux, Thomas Klozik, Jeffrey DeCou, Matthew Wagner, Reed Yackel, Gavyn Gipson, and Andrew DeCou took part in the ceremony.
Nationally, less than 4% of boys who start out in Scouting achieve this rank. While the Shiner Troop has a higher percentage, the rank of Eagle Scout is still a rare accomplishment.
Patton is the son of Danny and CJ Patton, and Thibodeaux is the son of Chris and Amy Thibodeaux.
Each candidate earned at least 21 merit badges and successfully complete a community, church, or synagogue-related service project to earn his Eagle.
Patton chose to replace bathroom light fixtures in Green Dickson Park, so that they are now more energy-efficient and considered safer by many.
Thibodeaux chose to construct a protective shed over the top that was restored by another now Eagle Scout and that used to be located here at Sulphur Park pool.
Unique to these two young men and their fellow scout Beck Bishop, these boys have earned the BSA Triple Crown Award for their successful participation in three of the BSA’s high adventure camps - Philmont, Sea Base, and Summit Bechtel. The boys want to give special thanks to the adults that undertook these trips with them.
Philmont was a 11-day hike through the mountains of New Mexico, Sea Base involved camping on a privately owned island for five nights, and Summit Bechtel was a hiking/ rafting trip, including some pretty adventurous high water over a five-day period. Each of these trips also included environmental conservation volunteer projects.
The adult leaders were Rutty DeCou, Chris Thibodeaux, James Davis, Stephen Gipson, James Guyn, Dr. Marshall Bishop, Shannon Copely, and Phillip Pilat.  Of note, the Trifecta boys have slept almost a year’s worth of days under the stars.
