St. Paul athletics: Rebecca Wagner wins TAPPS 2A Female Athlete of Year for 2022

St. Paul’s Rebecca Wagner was chosen as TAPPS  2A 2021-2022 Female Athlete of the Year after her many team and individual accomplishments.
"Winning this award means so much to me. I have put in a lot of hours into this athletic program freshman through senior year, and it is amazing to know that it paid off and is recognized by those around me,” she said.  “St. Paul has always shown athletic prowess. Not only are the student athletes very skilled and capable in their own sports, but the coaching staff is amazing at working with their athletes to make us all successful."
St. Paul athletic director Jake Wachsmuth said Wagner had strong character and value, and was more than a talented athlete.
During her 2021-2022 senior year, Wagner was part of the cross-country team that won their ninth straight state championship and finished in the top 10 at state.
In volleyball, she made Second Team All-State and helped the Lady Cardinals to the regional round.
Wagner was part of the 2022 Lady Cardinals 2A state basketball championship team, and made All-State Tournament team and First Team All-State.
She really savored the basketball title.
“The thing I will remember the most about my athletic career will definitely be winning the basketball state championship senior year. This is easily one of my favorite memories from high school,” Wagner said.
During the spring sports, she qualified for the state tennis tournament and in track, she was part of the state runner team, getting third in the triple jump, 800-relay and mile-relay teams and was fourth in the 400 relay.
In her first three years in high school. Wagner was part of state championship cross-county and was top 10 each time.
in volleyball, she played in the state tournament in her freshman year, regionals in her sophomore year and playoffs in her junior season. Wagner was First Team All-District sophomore and junior years.
Wagner was First Team All-State in basketball in her sophomore and junior years; All-State Tournament her junior yearl was part of the state runner up teams her freshman and junior seasons and made the regional round her sophomore year.
In tennis, she made the state tournament in her junior season and in track, was state team champions freshman and junior year. She won the 400 and 400 relay in freshman year; won the 400 relay and 1600 relay, and was third in the 400 in her junior year at state.
