St. Paul Volleyball: Lady Cardinals get five wins at Rice

    The Lady Cardinals volleyball team went 5-3 in the Rice Tournament last Thursday through Saturday.
    Pool D (Thursday)
    The Lady Cardinals went 1-2 in Pool D play on Thursday to capture third place, going up against Palacios, Weimar and Boling.
    St. Paul 2, Palacios 1
    St. Paul started off taking the first set against the Sharkettes 25-16 and won the tiebreaker, 25-20 after Palacios won game two 25-21.
    Ashlyn Pesek had 12 kills, two blocks, two aces; Faith Machart recorded nine kills; Riley Mozisek chipped in two kills; Avery Pesek added a kill; Emily Stamport had three kills; Tori Walker had three kills; Dallyn Pesek contributed 30 assists,  14 digs, five aces; Stefany Pokluda had two aces; Maurin Knesek finished with 10 digs, one ace.
    Weimar 2, St. Paul 0
    Weimar sank the Lady Cardinals 25-9, 25-8; Ashlyn Pesek had two kills; Stamport produced two kills; Machart had three kills; Dallyn Pesek added an ace; Knesek and Pokluda each recorded two digs.
    Boling 2, St. Paul 0
    Boling overcame St. Paul 25-15, 25-13 in the Lady Cardinals final action of the day.
    Ashlyn Pesek had two kills; Machart had four kills, one ace; Avery Pesek booked four kills, two digs one ace; Pokluda had one ace; Walker had two kills and Knesek had two digs.
    Pool F (Friday)
    It was a better day on Friday as St. Paul won all three matches in Pool F, getting two sweeps.
     St. Paul 2, Rice 0
    The Lady Cardinals bettered the hosts 25-13, 25-21, having to get a little dirty in the second set to get the win in two games.
    Kills from Mozisek, Machart and Stamport got the Lady Cards ahead 9-6 after 15 points, and St. Paul went on a 9-5 run for an 18-11 lead and then outscored Rice 7-2 for the set-one victory.
    Rice took a 16-9 advantage in the second game before an 11-4 run by St. Paul with kills from Ashlyn Pesek and one from Dallyn Pesek got the set on equal terms; Stamport had two aces as the Lady Cardinals scored five of the the next six to close things out.  Ashlyn Pesek had six kills, one block; Machart had five kills, one block; Mozisek had two kills; Dallyn Pesek added one kill, one ace, one dig; Stamport finished with two aces, one kill, one block; Avery Pesek had three aces,  one dig; Knesek tallied three digs, two aces; Pokluda had two digs, one kill, one ace.
    St. Paul 2, Van Vleck 0
    St. Paul  put down Van Vleck 25-13, 25-14.
    Pokluda helped St. Paul scored the opening six points with her serves and the Lady Cardinals later led 14-5; Ashlyn Pesek and Pokluda each had kills as the Lady Cardinals then outscored the Lady Leopards 11-9.
    Van Vleck was able to get ahead early with the first two points, followed by a 7-0 run from the Lady Cards. Van Vleck got within 7-6. Samantha Moeller got a couple of aces and a kills as St. Paul took a 17-9 lead and then scored eight of 13 points to take the win, Mozisek and Machart had a couple of kills late in the set.
    Ashlyn Pesek had  two kills; Machart had four kills, one ace; Moeller added three aces, one kill; Mozisek had a trio of kills; Stamport had four aces; Dallyn Pesek had an ace; Knesek contributed one kill, one ace; Walker had one kill; Pokluda finished with two kills, one ace.
    St. Paul 2, Wharton 1
    The Lady Tigers provided a little bit of a shell shock in the first set, with the first five points and and a 9-2 lead after 11 total. Wharton was later ahead 18-7 and finished with seven of the next 10 points for a 25-10 set one score.
    St. Paul returned the favor in the second game with the first seven points off of plays from Pokluda and Ashlyn Pesek.
    Wharton battled back from 10-1 down with a 6-1 run and later managed an 18-18 tie before the Lady Cardinals outscored them 7-1 the rest of the way for a 25-19 win with Machart getting some kills.
    Leads bounced back and forth in the third game before St. Paul went on a 6-1 run from 19-19 to complete the comeback win 2-1. Ashlyn Peek had five kills, two blocks; Machart finished with seven kills, one block, one ace; Pokluda had two aces; Mozisek had two kills, one dig; Avery Pesek had one ace; Stamport had two aces; Dallyn Pesek had 16 assists, three kills, one ace, one block; Knesek had two kills.
    Bracket Play (Saturday)
    St. Paul 2, Yorktown 0
    The Lady Cardinals won 25-18, 25-22 against Yorktown to start bracket play. Ashlyn Pesek had five kills, one block; Machart had five kills; Pokluda added one dig, one ace.
    Mozisek had five kills; Avery Pesek got four aces, three digs, one kill; Stamport had three kills, three aces one dig; Knesek had one dig; Dallyn Pesek had six digs, four aces; Moeller had one dig.
    Smithville 2, St. Paul 0
    Smithville downed the Lady Cards 25-11, 25-17 later on Saturday.
