Youth Quilt Class held June 26-29

Six students attended the annual Youth Quilt Class sponsored by the Shiner Heritage Quilters Guild on June 26 – 29, 2023.   McKenzie Kessler, Madeline Collins and Hannah Machacek made “Disappearing Nine-Patch” quilts and Rena Pierce, Ana Lowe and Alma Lowe made “Rail Fence” quilts.

BY MURRAY MONTGOMERY Staff Writer History tells us that over the centuries, as settlements grew along the Texas coast, hurricanes became an ever-present threat. In the article below, I have highlighted the storms that I consider to be some of the worst - there are many more.

Miss Shiner Royalty Court pageant this Sunday

Kicking off Half Moon Holidays, the Shiner Chamber of Commerce invites the community to the 44th Annual Miss Shiner Royal Court Pageant. The Pageant will take place on Sunday, June 25 at 6 p.m. at the Shiner Methodist Church Gymnasium.

Shiner Heritage Quilters donate quilts to Morgan's Wonderland

The Shiner Heritage Quilters Guild has donated eight quilts for campers to use at Morgan’s Wonderland in San Antonio, the world’s first theme park designed with individuals with special needs in mind. The presentation was made on May 26.

UCA cheer camp held at Shiner High School

All three Shiner High School Squads - Varsity, Junior Varsity, and Junior High - had home UCA Camp at the Shiner High School Gym June 19-21.  They learned various cheers, dances, sidelines, and stunts to get ready for those Thursday and Friday night lights.

High temps should be taken seriously

By Murray Montgomery Staff Writer   There’s no doubt that summer has arrived in Texas. In our area, we’ve been dealing with temperatures ranging from 90 to 100 degrees for days – and it doesn’t cool off much when the sun goes down. Even at night, we may see 70 to 80 degrees.

LCHC earns Distinguished Service Award

The South Texas Cattlemen’s Roundup

The South Texas Cattlemen’s Roundup kicked off the 2023 season at the Hallettsville Livestock Commission on Tuesday, June 13. Local 4-H clubs provided the goodies and the event staff. Many wonderful pies, ranch items, and plants were auctioned to benefit Driscoll Children’s Hospital.

Hallet Oak Gallery Juneteenth Celebration Monday, June 19

The public is invited to the Hallet Oak Gallery for a Juneteenth Celebration on Monday, June 19 from 12 p.m. – 4 p.m. Doors open at noon to view Black American Artist exhibits. Free admission and refreshments will be served. 1 p.m.
