Moisture associated with Tropical Storm Alberto brought several inches of soaking rain last week.Combining a deep tropical moisture supply in the gulf, the low pressure system dumped a three day amount of 2.99 inches officially.

New counseling office opens in Shiner

Congratulations on the grand opening of Vine & Bloom Counseling, PLLC.  The Shiner Chamber Board of Directors was honored to celebrate this momentous occasion with a Ribbon Cutting ceremony, joined by family and friends of the therapists, Casie Ehrig and Allison Krauser.

Shiner Equestrian Center offers lessons, competitions

Those interested in learning the ropes of horse riding or honing in on their skills for competitions can do so at Shiner’s own equestrian center, the Starkey Ranch. The ranch was founded by Sam Starkey, an experienced equestrian with a background in hunter/jumper riding and equine studies.

Council hears Colored City Cemetery update

The Yoakum City Council heard an update and presentation from the Yoakum City Colored Cemetery at the June 11 meeting.One of the latest additions to the cemetery includes a new interactive QR code folks can scan which will tell others where the name of the person’s grave is located.

Lone plane crash survivor returns to Yoakum

Sixteen months ago, the Yoakum community experienced a rare event: A small plane carrying five men from Tennessee crash landed in a field outside of town near FM 318.Four men died, sadly, but the lone survivor was able to crawl from the wreckage and call for help.

Yoakum hosts Alamo cannon replica with Texas Lt. Governor

The Alamo Trust Inc. hosted a cannon-firing gathering in Yoakum on June 9. More than 120 guests witnessed the firing of a replica of the 18-pound cannon similar to the one Lieutenant Colonel William Barret Travis used during the siege of the Alamo.
