A Certificate of Achievement was given to County Auditor Neomi Williams at the DeWitt County Commissioners Court meeting March 10.“The work that is done by Neomi is phenomenal,” DeWitt County Sheriff Carl Bowen said.

Frigid temps, little rain seen in February

Weather in February was dominated by cold conditions and a shortage of rain.A low of 22 degrees was recorded on the 20th, and was preceded by 25 degrees the day before. Neither was a record, but a record low high temperature of 36 degrees was set on Feb. 19.

Mobile home total loss in Sunday, Feb. 23 fire

A mobile home fire on Feb. 23 was a total loss according to the Hallettsville Volunteer Fire Department.According to a report from HVFD, a structure fire was called in at 12:29 p.m. on that Sunday afternoon and located at 3598 U.S. Highway 90-A East.

Saltillo team wins 42 Domino state championship

The annual State Championship 42 Domino tournament took place this past Saturday with 149 teams competing for the title.

Comanche Band competes at UIL band, twirling solo and ensemble contest

The Shiner Comanche Band competed at the UIL band and twirling Solo and Ensemble Contest on Saturday, February 8. At the solo and ensemble contest students performed either an instrumental solo, multiple band member ensemble, or a twirling solo.

On Wednesday, February 12, Jansen Flores competed for a chair in the coveted All State Band. Jansen Flores earned 10th chair Trombone at the audition. This result is outstanding on its own, but even more so because he was competing against 3A schools.

7th Grade Comanche Band earns Sweepstakes at Concert, Sight-Reading Contest

The 7th Grade Shiner Comanche Band earned a sweepstakes at the Region 18/26 UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Evaluation! The group rehearsed three concert pieces and prepared for the sight-reading portion of the evaluation.
