A talented group of 20 fiddlers from across the country showcased their skills in the Gone to Texas segment of the 54th Annual Fiddler’s Frolics, held this past Saturday on April 26 at the Hallettsville KC Hall.

Brahmas go through District unscathed

Going through District 25-AAA undefeated is quite an accomplishment. Hallettsville (23-2,12-0) swept Industrial last week 9-2 and 7-1.In the 9-2 victory here Tuesday, April 22, starting and winning pitcher Konnor Kopecky tossed four shut-out innings and gave up two hits, walked two and fanned three.
Lavaca Soil and Water Conservation District 13 selected its school-wide K through 2nd grade poster winners from Shiner Catholic School, who include from left Annabelle Montemayor (1st), Arisa Lekgegaj (2nd) and Haydee Gonzalez (3rd). Montemayor’s and Lekgegaj’s posters placed second and third at district in the K thru 2nd grade division.

Yoakum airport undergoes renovations

The Yoakum Municipal Airport is undergoing some renovations.“The Texas Department of Transportation does an annual evaluation of airports,” Mayor Carl O’ Neill said. “The evaluation last year showed that we need to do some repair work out there. There will be rehabilitations.

Early voting has started

Early voting in this year’s Hallettsville City mayor’s election began this week.The City of Hallettsville is the only entity holding an election with a race between incumbent mayor Alice Jo Summers and challenger Gordon G. Clark.

The leader of the Catholic Church, Pope Francis, passed away this past Monday after battling health issues that led to him having a stroke and heart failure.Pope Francis was born Jorge Mario Bergoglio on Dec. 17, 1936 and was elected the 266th pope on March 13, 2013.
