Cross Country has two varsity runners in top 10

Yoakum High School (YHS) Cross Country runners competed in the Gonzales Invitational Sept. 21 with three runners placing in the top 10 in their race.VARSITY LADY BULLDOGSGracei Martinez placed ninth in 13 minutes, 42.53 seconds to lead the Lady Bulldogs. Anaiah Thiele was No. 16 in 14:11.

The Yoakum High School Bulldogs traveled to West Columbia this Sept. 20 night to play the Columbia High Roughnecks.The Bulldogs started off the game with a bang as Trae Cuellar took the opening kickoff 60 yards for a touchdown.

Raiders stymie Brahmas, 24-6

ALTAIR – The Rice Consolidated Raiders are for real.Rice upped its record to 4-0 with a 24-6 victory over the Hallettsville Brahmas Friday night at Veteran’s Memorial Stadium.However, the Brahmas (2-2) did break the Raiders’ string of 15 quarters without giving up a point this season.

ALTAIR –The Hallettsville Lady Brahmas recorded their first victory in District 25-AAA play by defeating Rice Consolidated 19-25, 25-19, 25- 15, 25-23 Friday evening.Highlights were 17 kills by Kasey Harper, 17 digs by Hanna Zachary and 36 assists by Alaina Halata.

Sacred Heart swept Bulverde Bracken Christian 25-14, 25-23, 25-12 in its TAPPS opener here Tuesday, Sept. 17.The Indianettes (9-12, 1-0) had a slight hiccup in the second set. “We dominated in sets 1 and 3 and in set 2 they almost got us,” Indianettes head coach Orsak said.

Flyers eke out 14-13 victory over Indians

A missed extra point was the difference in the Sacred Heart Indians’ 14- 13 loss here Friday night to Victoria St. Joseph.The Indians (2-2) had a chance to go ahead in the fourth quarter before giving up the ball on the Flyer 25-yard line with 4:57 to play.

The Shiner Junior High volleyball teams competed in the Schulenburg Tournament on Sept. 14.7th GradeThe Lady Braves earned third place defeating Bellville (25-22, 25-23), losing to Weimar (21-25, 25-21, 7-15) and then defeating Brazos (25-15, 25-8) in the final match.

Both Shiner cross-country programs were in action in Gonzales on Saturday.St. PaulVarsity GirlsThe Lady Cardinals came in sixth with 136 points.Kristin Cerny led St. Paul with sixth place in  13 minutes, 35.85 seconds and behind her was Skylar Mozisek in 13:39.13. Frances Filip was No. 38 in 15:32.
