DeWitt County Historical Commission receives Distinguished Service Award

The DeWitt County Historical Commission was presented with a 2025 Distinguished Service Award Certificate at the DeWitt County Commissioners Court meeting June 22.

Commissioners: no on fireworks ban

DeWitt County Commissioners voted against an aerial fireworks ban for Independence Day at the June 8 meeting.“We do this every year when the 4th of July holiday rolls around,” DeWitt County Judge Daryl Fowler said.

DeWitt County Commissioners approved a resolution adopting the county’s 2026 Hazard Mitigation Action Plan at the May 26 meeting.This is a document officials say will help secure future state and federal funding for disaster prevention projects.

Community Emergency Response Team

DeWitt County now has applications open for its Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program.The CERT program is a nationally recognized initiative supported by FEMA that trains volunteers in basic disaster response skills.

DeWitt commissioners approve resolution

DeWitt County Commissioners approved a resolution establishing the week of May 18th as Texas Flood Awareness Week at the May 11th meeting. “The Texas Floodplain Management Association established this in 2016,” DeWitt County Emergency Management Coordinator Billy Jordan Jr. said.
The Texas Association of Counties Risk Management Pool (TAC RMP) presented a Safety Achievement Award to DeWitt County. DeWitt County commissioners accepted the award. DeWitt Commissioners receive Safety Achievement Award

DeWitt County received the Safety Achievement Award from the Texas Association of Counties Risk Management Pool (TAC RMP) at the Commissioners Court meeting April 27th.This is for its commitment to workplace safety.

DeWitt commissioners approve proclamations

The DeWitt County Commissioners Court approved several proclamations at the April 13 meeting.The first proclamation established April 26 as Texas Soil and Water Stewardship Week.“Healthy soil and clean water is a benefit to everyone,” DeWitt County Judge Daryl Fowler said.

DeWitt County’s Emergency Management Office is reporting significant progress in preparedness, coordination, and community engagement during the first quarter of this fiscal year.This comes as the region faces extreme drought and increased wildfire risk.
