The State of Texas Emergency Assistance Registry, known as STEAR, is a free, voluntary program designed to help local officials prepare for disasters by identifying residents who may need extra help when emergencies strike. Those in DeWitt County can register.

The DeWitt County Commissioners approved a burn ban at the Aug. 25 meeting.The Keetch-Byram Drought Index determines whether or not a burn ban should be instituted. “The Keetch Byram Index shows the average is at 546,” DeWitt County Judge Daryl Fowler said.
