Grand jury hands out 19 felony indictments

Members of the DeWitt County grand Jury handed down 19 felony indictments for the month of January 2024. Of those 19 cases, six were marked as sealed indictments, which are typically issued whenever law enforcement has not yet served arrest warrants in an active investigation.

Commissioners renew juvenile incarceration agreement

DeWitt County commissioners on Monday, Dec. 11, renewed a one-year contract between the San Patricio County Juvenile Probation Department and DeWitt County that provides for pre-adjudication detention of juvenile offenders. That agreement begins with the start of the new year on Jan. 1, 2024.

Commissioners seek extension

Commissioners have sent a letter to the Texas General Land Office seeking an extension of time to submit a project list for the GLO Grant at the Nov. 23 meeting. This grant is $1.3 million and is Hurricane Harvey money which is to be used for parts of the county that are low to moderate income.

Burning bans still on in Lavaca, DeWitt counties

Connected Nation released broadband survey findings

Representatives from the nonprofit Connected Nation met with several local and regional officials in Cuero last week for the much-anticipated release of the group’s broadband internet survey findings, having completed their surveys earlier this year in both Lavaca and DeWitt counties.
