Bastrop boy jailed after running from deputy to a blocked train crossing

A 17-year-old Bastrop boy was taken by police to St. Mark’s Medical Center before they hauled him to jail on evasion charges after he led officers on a high speed chase from roughly the Lavaca County line to Flatonia, where he rear-ended another waiting for a train to pass.

Oil tanker shuts down Highway 77 Sunday

A trucker hauling a tanker full of oil-based mud shut down U.S. Highway 77 for about five hours last weekend after he attempted the stretch of road past a residential area commonly referred to as “the Bluff” just south of La Grange and failed.
