Moulton boys basketball: Katz krush Knippa

SEGUIN — The Moulton Bobkatz were not completely satisfied with their performance in the first-round 49-31 win against Round-Top Carmine.Before facing Knippa in the area round on Friday in Seguin, the Katz went to work to improve their  performance.

The Moulton Kittens’ season came to an end in the regional semifinals against Brookeland.Moulton finishes with a 32-3 overall record.The Kittens graduate Karsyn Blahuta, Valeria Pinedo, Addison Simper, Araceli Vasquez, Raelyn Brooks, Reese Nieto and Audrey Swinford.

The Bobkatz outscored Nordheim 37-22 in the second half to pull away for a 78-59 win Feb. 3 at home.Moulton led 25-23 after one quarter and scored 16 of 30 points in the second frame.The Katz held a 17-13 advantage in the third stanza and finished up in the fourth quarter with a 20-9 run.

The Kittens gathered up two more district wins last week against Runge, Prairie Lea.Moulton 80, Runge 7Ava Olivarez bucketed 18 points, Taylor Self hit a triple and had 10 points while Valeria Pinedo netted 10 points in the Kittens’ 80-7 win over Runge Jan. 27 in Moulton.

The basketball district for the Kittens and Bobkatz did not change very much for the next two school years.Moulton is in Region 4, District 30 with Austwell-Tivoli, Nordheim, Prairie Lea, Runge and Waelder.

Shortly after the start of the Katz Jan. 20 home game with Waelder,   Moulton head coach John Meisetschleager was not satisfied with what he saw.He called a timeout to gather his players and regroup.

Starting the second half against Waelder, Moulton Kitten senior Araceli Vasquez had scored 982 points in her high school career.Her teammates fed her the ball as she scored the first 15 points and then hit a triple that put her at 1,000 points as a varsity Kitten.

Moulton boys basketball won against Brazos in non district and defeated Nordheim to start district last week.Moulton 64, Nordheim 38Landon Chaloupka scored 17 points and made three treys in Moulton’s 64-38 win over Nordheim in the district opener Friday at home.

The Kittens opened district with a forfeit win over Prairie Lea and defeated Nordheim last week.Moulton 91, Nordheim 16Lilliana Gomez scored 15 points, on all triples, Araceli Vasaquez and Audrey Swinford totaled 12 points each in the Kittens’ 91-16 win over Nordheim on Friday.
