Machart completes basic at Lackland AFB

The Machart family of Shiner spent their first days of September over at Lackland Air Force Base, where they got to attend U.S. Air Force recruit Katie Machart’s graduation ceremony from basic training. Katie, a member of Shiner High School’s Class of 2022, is already an E-2 in rank.

On Point Barbecue brings home another big win

Shiner’s Justin and Karen Fortune, pictured above with their Reserve Championship Award, brought home several top awards for their competition barbecue cookoff team, On Point Barbecue, after they traveled to Victoria’s inaugural Sombrero Festival held last weekend at that town.

Shiner firemen could use your help!

A busy summer fighting fires and answering calls all around our area has them needing to get together for a good old fashioned barbecue fundraiser to lift some spirits and raise some needed funds for the Shiner Fire Department. They’ll be getting together bright and early Sunday, Sept.

Shiner FFA steer validation set Sept. 10

Shiner FFA steer validation will take place from 8-10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, at the Shiner Ag Barn. This validation is mandatory for all students showing a steer at the Shiner FFA Livestock Show. All steers should be in your possession and halter-broken by this time.

Veteran Yoakum principal steps in at SHS just before school starts

Longtime Yoakum High School Principal Chris Wegener is now the principal at Shiner High School, following the late summer departure of Brian McGraw, the former high school principal, who was lured away by Ganado ISD to serve as superintendent of schools at the Jackson County district.
