Feral hogs continue to multiply across the country

Wild hogs, also known as feral hogs, are a species of pig that roam in the wild across many parts of the United States. They are considered to be the most destructive invasive species in this country today.

Get ready; hummingbirds are here

When I started to research the subject of hummingbirds, I had no idea of the number of species of this little bird - one source writes that there are at least 300 species world-wide. The number of types in Texas can vary from 9 to 18 - depending on where you get your information.

Many years ago, I received a letter from Mrs. George T. Ferris of Houston. Ferris told me that as a child, she would visit her aunt and uncle who lived in Gonzales back in the 1930s. These folks were Ollie and Riley Zumwalt — Mr. Zumwalt owned a barbershop across from the Alcalde Hotel. Mrs.
