Yoakum softball: Yoakum gets two wins, two loses in Flatonia Tournament

The Yoakum softball team went 2-2 last Thursday through Saturday at the Flatonia Tournament. Yoakum 6, Flatonia 0 Madisen Grant and Stephanie Oviedo each had a home run in the Lady Dogs’ 6-0 shutout of Flatonia Thursday in the Flatonia Tournament.

Yoakum softball: Yoakum slams Rice with two dozen runs

It was a deluge of hits and runs for the Yoakum softball team March 7 at Rice Consolidated with 25 runs on 25 hits. The Lady ‘Dogs scored 12 runs in the first inning, brought in 10 runs in the second and scored a trio of runs in the third frame.

Yoakum baseball: Yoakum over Rice 14-0

Jayden Jones went 3-for-3 and scored three runs as Yoakum pounded Rice 14-0 March 7 in Rice. Wyatt Hanzelka pitched a three-hit shutout with one walk and five strikeouts. Yoakum went up 1-0 in the top of the second, scored five in the third, two in the fourth and six more in the fifth.

Yoakum boys soccer: Yoakum loses close game to JFK 1-0

The Yoakum Bulldogs soccer team gave a good fight but still came up short. Yoakum hosted San Antonio John F. Kennedy on March 7 and the Rockets made a first-half goal stand in a 1-0 win. It was different from the game in San Antonio that ended in a 7-0 win for the Rockets.

Yoakum baseball: Yoakum ties with Bears in LG Tournament

The Yoakum Bulldogs baseball tied one and lost two last week in the La Grange Tournament. Yoakum 5, La Vernia 5 The Bulldogs’ second game with La Vernia in six days went a lot better. Yoakum and the Bears battled to a 5-5 tie Thursday morning in the La Grange Tournament.

Yoakum golf: Bulldogs compete at Cuero Tournament

Yoakum golfers took part in the Cuero Tournament last week. Girls Kylie Saenz carded a 124; Lucy Watters had a 126; Brynlee McCoy carded a 129; Kyleigh Powell had a 130 and Gracyn Wolf booked a 131. The Lady ‘Dogs had a 509 team score. Boys Eli Cook scored a 107 and Luke Helweg recorded a 122.
