Yoakum girls basketball: Lady Bulldogs place second

Yoakum picked up several wins at the Port Aransas Tournament Thursday through Saturday to earn runner up. Jayana Phillips and Deazia Rios were named to the All-Tournament team. Yoakum 58, Odem 28 The Lady Bulldogs defeated Odem 58-28 Thursday in the tournament.

Yoakum volleyball: Players get All-District awards

The Region IV-3A runner up Lady Bulldogs Volleyball team had plenty of players receive All-District awards. Leading the way is Jayana Phillips who won Co-Offensive Player of the Year; Macie Blakeney was Co-Setter of the Year and Olivia Fojt was Co-Defensive Player of the Year.

Yoakum girls basketball: Yoakum rallies in fourth to beat Flatonia

Playing with its full varsity team for the first time after the Lady Bulldogs’ historic volleyball run, the Lady ‘Dog hoops team edged Flatonia 36-34 Nov. 15 in Flatonia. Yoakum outscored Flatonia 10-6 in the first half and Flatonia returned the favor with a 12-8 run in the second quarter.

Yoakum cross country: Martinez wraps up CC career at state meet

Yoakum’s lone state cross-country runner, senior Gisela Martinez, placed No. 60 in the 3A two miler with a time of 13 minutes, 18.8 seconds, mile-one split of 6:30.7 and a pace of 6:39 a mile. This was Martinez’s fourth time to compete at the state meet as part of the team or individual.
