Yoakum High School welcomes Victor Posada as band director

The Yoakum High School Band has a new band director. Victor Posada will be entering his 8th year as a band director and his first year with Yoakum High School. Before coming to YHS, he was the Director of Bands at Crystal City High School in Crystal City.

Construction updates given at YISD meeting

Construction and school safety updates were provided at the Yoakum Independent School District meeting on July 14.An update had to do with the new Maintenance Building.“The maintenance crew started moving into this new building this week,” Weaver and Jacobs Representative Shawn Brandt said.

Students recognized at YISD board meeting

Several students were recognized in both academics and athletics at the Yoakum Independent School District (YISD) meeting June 9. The first student recognized was Emma Fling. She competed in the 2025 State Golf Tournament and placed 42nd out of 70 participants.

YHS commencement exercises set for Friday

The commencement exercise for the Yoakum High School (YHS) Class of 2025 will be held on May 23 beginning at 8 p.m. at Bulldog Stadium. The program will start with the processional, National Anthem, and the Pledge of Allegiance.

Students recognized at YISD Board meeting, resignations and retirees announced

Students were recognized at the Yoakum Independent School District meeting May 12 for both art and track.Taylor Velek was recognized for her submission in an art contest. Her artwork, titled “Ranch Hands” qualified for state competition. There were 2,359 artworks judged.

YISD receives TEA ratings

The Yoakum Independent School District received a “B” rating in the Texas Education Agency’s 2023 STAAR accountability report, with notable progress across multiple academic areas.

YISD hears presentation from band director; gives construction updates

The Yoakum Independent School District heard a presentation on the upcoming marching band show set for the Fall season at the April 14 meeting. Band Director Mario Morales spoke about the show being a Latin theme.The show is called “Mi Corazon.

The Yoakum Independent School District (YISD) Student Council has been making some headway on their ongoing beautification project.“Right now, we just finished up the landscaping of phase three which is the courtyard area in the middle of the school,” Student Council Advisor Amy Robbins said.
