Hallettsville, Texas, grew from rugged beginnings and acquired quite a colorful history, but the hard times were eventually subdued because of the perseverance and toughness of its first inhabitants. The town had it all – things that would make great material for any Hollywood western.

Shiner FFA returns energized from state convention Fort Worth

Shiner FFA officers returned recently from the 94th annual Texas FFA convention held at the historic Fort Worth Stockyard District, where student leaders from across Lavaca County and the Lone Star State spent an entire week of July 11-15 immersed in all things FFA.

Makes for some lengthy, boring days. So, Moulton Student Council members made sure to find time on their officer retreat last weekend to enjoy some team bonding as they planned out activities for coming school year.

“I hope people are still talking about Bryan’s 100 years after I’m gone,” he said to no one in particular, not so long ago.  I glanced at the empty tables to my left. Then shot a quick look to the tables at my back. Only then did I realize my buddy Ignacio Morales was talking to me.

Boys, Girls State participants give reports

On July 25, students from both local schools gave reports to Shiner American Legion Post 201 members and guests on Boys and Girls State. Students are sponsored by the local Legion post.

Shiner American Legion Post 201 makes donations

Shiner American Legion Post 201 recently handed out donations to local groups. Donations were given to the Shiner Police Department, Shiner EMS, and Shiner Fire Department. We thank them for the services they provide to this community.
