The Yoakum Area Chamber of Commerce presents the 96th Annual Tom Tom Festival May 31-June 2.The tradition begins at the Community Center with the fan-favorite Miss Yoakum pageant on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. as the carnival debuts alongside the rodeo arena.

Mobile home fire

A mobile home home located on Highway 90-A East was a complete loss due to fire that occurred late Saturday night.According to a report from Hallettsville Volunteer Fire Department chief Stephen Grahmann, the call of the fire came in around 11:23 p.m. Saturday night at 6194 US Highway 90-A East.

Weather forecasters predict active hurricane season

The 2024 Atlantic hurricane season officially begins, Saturday, June 1 and runs through the end of November and storm forecasters at Colorado State University (CSU), the Weather Channel and Accuweather all have indicated the season could be explosive and a very active one.

Ezzell ISD holds graduation ceremonies

The Ezzell Independent School District held its commencement exercises last Thursday, May 23 with eight seniors receiving their diplomas and making them the second class to graduate from Ezzell High School.

Veterans organizations honor the fallen

The Vietnam Veterans of America Lone Star Chapter 854 and the Lavaca Memorial Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6382 conducted Memorial Day ceremonies Monday morning at the Sacred Heart Family Center with Lt. Col. USAF (retired) Jerry Tanner serving as the guest speaker.

Council amends RV ordinance

The Moulton City Council amended an ordinance from 2012 at the May 14 meeting.This ordinance is in regards to RVs and people living in RVs.“People living in RVs are prohibited in the City of Moulton,” City Administrator LuAnn Rogers said.

EMS Week celebrates 50 years

Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Week, May 19-25, honors all fire and EMS workers. City Mayor Carl O’Neill presented a proclamation on behalf of the City Council to the Yoakum Fire/EMS Department acknowledging how Emergency Medical Services play a vital role in our community and surrounding areas.

Council approves broadband agreement

The Yoakum City Council approved an agreement for the use of poles and rightsof-way at the May 14 meeting. Rise Broadband aims to use these for the installation of fiber lines.Rise Broadband is installing fiber lines in smaller cities in the Houston and San Antonio area.

HISD accepts bids, recognizes state qualifiers

The Hallettsville ISD board of trustees recognized state qualifiers and accepted bids among other things at its regular monthly meeting Monda, May 13.The board approved a bid from Grafe Chevrolet-GMC for the purchase of a 2024 Suburban.
