Hallettsville ISD journalism class attends industry convention in Boston

The Hallettsville ISD journalism program embarked on a trip to Boston, Massachusetts on Nov. 1 for the Journalism Education Association convention. “It was great! We went through three days of workshops and the girls competed in a national contest,” Journalism teacher Christi Opiela said.

Several New state laws take effect in 2024

Our property tax code is undergoing a ton of changes as we head into the new year, thanks to several bills passed by the Texas Legislature last session that officially take effect next week. A total of 31 new laws will hit the books starting Monday, Jan. 1, 2024.

Moulton ISD discuss legislative updates

The Moulton ISD board of trustees approved some legislative updates at the Wednesday, Dec. 13 meeting. “These are local and legal policies that TASB (Texas Association of School Boards) is recommending to every district,” Superintendent Renee Fairchild said. “Some of the highlights include safety.

City getting new $230K software

The Yoakum City Council approved a contract for financial software services with Tyler Technologies at its Tuesday, Dec. 12, meeting. Newly appointed City Manager, William Linn, authorized the contract in the amount of $230,180.

Council tables talks on Yoakum Little League Park

A spokesman from Yoakum Little League asked city aldermen to approve a funding reallocation last week to make available some $10,000 in reserve funds to upgrade their restroom facilities at the city’s ballfields ahead of the upcoming baseball season.
