Historical conference happens Saturday in Hallettsville

The 25th annual Alton C. Allen Historical Conference will take place Saturday at the Kocian Building on the Courthouse Square in Hallettsville. The Lavaca County Historical Commission has four speakers lined up with their topics mainly focusing on the impact of the Civil War in Texas.

If you’re looking for a nice place to visit and bring your children to enjoy the wonders of the Fall season, the place to come is the Hallettsville First United Methodist Church Pumpkin Patch.
Hallettsville First United Methodist Church is hosting its Pumpkin Patch through the month of October with over 3,500 pumpkins seen lying behind the church on its grounds. The Pumpkin Patch is a great place to visit with the theme of bringing Fall to Hallettsville and offers field trips to area schools where the students can receive lessons related to the Fall season as well as games and other activities. The Patch also has a great place for photo opportunities as well.

School district receives $20K grant

There wasn’t much fanfare that came of the Hallettsville ISD monthly Board of Trustees meeting Monday night. The district was awarded a $20,000 grant from GVEC. The grant will be used for lighting at the junior high and east of the high school.

Shiner residents and their friends in other communities around the area are invited out to Police Chief Kevin Kelso, farewell and retirement party planned for 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11, at the Shiner Police Station. He announced his resignation from Shiner PD in late September.
