A recent Texas Supreme Court decision has farm groups chalking a victory in that the courts reaffirmed the longstanding precedent on how water rights are considered, interpreted and protected in Texas.

The community of Hostyn overlooks the Colorado River Valley from where it sits high on a hill, hence its old name of Bluff for more than a century, back when it was first settled back in 1820.   Like many such places, its heyday came decades ago, back before the second world war.

Preliminary 2022 STAAR and EOC results indicate that Yoakum ISD students improved on their overall passing rate from last year, continuing the trend of annual performance improvements.   YISD Superintendent Tom Kelley reported the preliminary results during the June 13 YISD School Board meeting.

As gasoline and asphalt prices continue to increase, the DeWitt County Commissioners’ Court may soon face the decision of cutting back on anticipated projects, raising the tax revenue or drawing from reserve funds to afford expenditures.
