Braves maul Cardinals

The Braves bounced back from an 8-0 loss to OLV with a 36-6 victory over St. Ludmila at Braves Field here Thursday.

The Braves (1-1) scored in every quarter.

In the first period, tailback Landon Chovanetz scored on a 5-yard run and Alex Grahmann scored the two-point conversion. This came on the Braves’ first possession.

In the second stanza, tail back Landon Chovanetz scored on a 1-yard run after a big pass play from quarterback Cullen Machicek to Grahmann to set up the score. Machicek ran over the two-point con version.

The Braves took the second half kickoff and scored on a 31-yard pass from Machicek to Grahmann and Brantley Steffek kicked the point after to up the score to 23-0.

Asa Murphy scored on at 3-yard run after Machicek recovered the ensuing kickoff for a 29-0 lead.

The Cardinals got on the board in the fourth quarter on an 80-yard run by Paul Filip. The final Sacred Heart touchdown came when tailback Taft Johnson fled 55 yards for a touchdown and Steffek again kicked the PAT.

Eli Beach and Easton Olivarez were listed as defensive standouts.
