Shiner football: Comanches open district play with 60-0 rout of Danbury

Levi Werner went 3-for-4 passing for 73 yards and three touchdowns, Clayton Fric ran for 37 yards,  both touchdowns; Quincy Jones ran for 55 yards and one score while catching a touchdown pass as Shiner rolled past Danbury 60-0 Friday night at Comanche Stadium in the 15-2ADI opener.
Shiner scored 33 points in the first quarter, outscored the Panthers 20-0 in the second period and scored one touchdown in the fourth quarter.
Kaden Neskora and Landen Christensen also had one touchdown catch; Tyler Harvey, Caleb Cowan and Zane Nitsch added one touchdown on the ground.
Werner found Neskora for a 36-yard touchdown pass with 10:14 to go in the opening quarter to start the scoring. Jones started the drive with a 21-yard run.
Werner hit Christensen for a 12-yard touchdown pass at the 7:34 mark on the only play on a drive that began after the Panthers were held on fourth down. 
Fric got a 3-yard run with 4:33 in the first for a 20-0 lead to cap a three-play, 34-yard drive. Vesely had two carries for 31 yards to began the drive.
The next two touchdowns belonged to Jones as he caught a 25-yard pass and scored on a 34-yard run. His touchdown catch came after Shiner got a fumble at the Panther 25 and his touchdown run came after Shiner made a fourth-down stop at the Danbury 34.
Fric got his second score on a 34-yard run with 11:47 left in the first half for a 40-0 lead after the defense got an interception.
Harvey scored on a 12-yard run with 5:26 left to cap a seven-play, 55-yard drive with Cowan getting runs of 18 and 15 yards during the drive, and Cowan scored on a 2-yard run with 16 seconds left to push Shiner to a 53-0 advantage.  
Shiner’s only second-half score came on an 11-yard run by Zane Nitsch with 8:50 left in the fourth quarter to polish off a three-play 84-yard drive which started with a 59-yard run by Luke Polasek. Nitsch carried for 14 yards on the second play before scoring on the run on the third play.
Shiner gained 379 yards on offense on just 24 plays, 17 first downs and averaging 15.8 yards play and ran the ball 20 times for 306 yards for an average of 15.3. Werner averaged 24.33 yards a completion and 18.25 yards a pass. Shiner lost one fumble while intercepting two Panther passes and recovering one fumble.
Shiner limited Danbury to 49 total yards and five first downs.
