Shiner football: Comanches whitewash Weimar 62-0 in district
Quincy Jones ran for 172 yards and three touchdowns as Shiner posted another shutout and scored 60-plus points in a 62-0 win at Weimar on Friday.
Tyler Harvey ran two times for 66 yards and one touchdown. Levi Werner had five rushes for 32 yards and a score. Triston Vesely toted the ball four times for 30 yards and one touchdown; Caleb Cowan had six carries for 27 yards and one score.
Clayton Fric finished with 23 yards and one touchdown.
Zane Nitsch had two carries for 19 yards and one score. Werner was 5-of-6 throwings for 117 yards and Reid Simper was 1-for-2 for 26 yards.
Anthony Hernandez (55 yards) and Landen Christensen (45) each had two catches while Killian McDonald had a 26-yard reception and Kaden Neskora had a 17-yard catch.
The Comanches (6-0, 2-0) had 536 yards on 53 plays; 45 rushes for 393 yards; 6-of-8 passes for 143 yards and got 25 first downs.
The Shiner defense limited Weimar to 138 yards and five first downs.
Shiner led 14-0 after one quarter before scoring 20 points in the second frame, 21 in the third and seven points in the fourth quarter.
Jones scored on a 31-yard run 46 seconds into the game to end a four-play, 54-yard drive. He had three rushes for 54 yards.
Vesely scored on a 26-yard run at the 4:25 mark of the quarter to finish a nine-play, 73-yard drive.
Shiner took a 20-0 lead seven seconds into the second quarter on a 5-yard run by Fric to cap a six-play, 49-yard drive that started with Shiner getting an interception.
Shiner scored at the 2:49 mark with a 4-yard run by Cowan after the Comanches forced a turnover on downs at the Weimar 48. The drive lasted four plays with Werner hitting Christensen for a 35-yard pass and later Hernandez for 12 yards.
Werner scored on a 1-yard run with no time left in the first half on a 12-yard run for a 34-0 lead after the Comanche defense made another fourth-down stop.
Weimar fumbled away the second-half kickoff at their own 27 and Jones’s 12-yard run with 9:40 to go in the third gave Shiner a 41-0 lead.
Shiner took a 48-0 lead at the 5:54 mark as a 57-yard run by Harvey finished a quick, three-play 71-yard drive.
Another turnover on downs by Weimar later in the third quarter resulted in a one-play, 79-yard drive, Jones’s third touchdown of the game.
Shiner capped scoring with 2:43 left in the game on a 13-yard run by Nitsch.
