St. Paul football: Flatonia gets by Cardinals 49-26

St. Paul opened the 2023 season at Flatonia, coming up a little short 49-26. The Cardinals opened scoring in the first quarter with a 2-yard run by Nate Boedeker to take a 7-0 lead. Flatonia scored later for a 7-7 score after the end of the first quarter.

Hallettsville was a team with lots of speed but Shiner compounded the situation with its own errors.

Yoakum football: Yoakum looking to end skid against Cameron Yoe

The Bulldogs host Cameron Yoe for their second straight home game. Yoakum got off to a good start with a 36-14 win over Industrial with quarterback Zach Taylor throwing for 173 yards and three touchdowns while running for another one. The Yoemen opened 2023 with a 45-21 rout of Lago Vista.

By Alvin Gomez/Special to the Herald-Times This past Friday night marked the beginning of what the Bulldogs hope will be a long season that could lead to Jerry World in Arlington playing for a Class 3A Division I State Title. Yoakum opened it's 2023 campaign with Industrial coming to town.

Yoakum cross country: Cross country has good meet in Industrial

The Yoakum cross-country teams ran in the Industrial meet on Saturday with two Gold team medals and a total of four top-three team finishes. Varsity Girls The Lady Bulldogs scored 116 points to place third at the meet. Gracei Martinez led Yoakum with seventh place in 14 minutes, 38 seconds.
