St. Paul baseball: Cards blank Allen Academy to earn return trip to state

FAYETTEVILLE —The St. Paul Cardinals officially obtained their second straight ticket to the state tournament last week. The Cardinals downed Bryan Allen Academy 13-0 on May 3 in Fayetteville in the TAPPS V regional game.

Shiner baseball: Comanches sweep Trojans

The Comanches opened the playoffs by rolling Charlotte 13-0, 11-1 in a sweep Friday at St. Mary’s University in San Antonio. Shiner 13, Charlotte 0 (Game 1) Drew Wenske and Ryan Peterson each scored four runs to get Shiner to a 12-0 win in five innings in the first game.

St. Paul track and field: SP track teams top four at state

HEWITT — The St. Paul track teams finished out the season Friday and Saturday at the TAPPS state track and field meet at Panther Stadium in Hewitt. St. Paul brought home a total of five Gold, three Silver and four Bronzes while each team got top four.

Shiner girls golf: LC eager to do well at historical showing at state meet

Early next week will be historical for the Shiner girls golf team. The Lady Comanches came in second at regionals to qualify for the state tournament as a team for the first time in school history. Shiner has sent individual golfer Monington Clark to state in 2017 and 2019.

Yoakum softball: Yoakum limits Jourdanton's offense in 4-0 area-round loss

Throughout the season, the Yoakum softball team had been seeking solid defensive play. In what turned out to be the final game of the season, the Lady Bulldogs sought and found. But they also needed a little more offense.

St. Paul baseball: Cards defeat Conroe Covenant Christian 7-1

The Cardinals opened the area round with Conroe Covenant Christian with two runs in the first inning, then outscored Covenant Christian 3-1 in the sixth and 2-0 in the seventh for a 7-1 win Saturday in Conroe. Jackson Ulcak limited the Cougars to a run on three hits and struck out eight batters.

Shiner baseball: Columbus edges Comanches in warmup game

The Shiner Comanches had their chances but did not fully capitalize. Shiner hosted 3A Columbus on Friday evening in a playoff warm up game. The Cardinals held on for a 3-2 win in a full game. Columbus outhit Shiner 6-4 with a pair of doubles but did not ever put Shiner away.
