Shiner softball: Lady Comanches rally to defeat Navarro 11-3

The Lady Comanches scored five runs in the seventh inning with a 6-3 lead at Navarro on Monday to pull away 11-3. The Lady Panthers led 2-0 after the first inning and Shiner scored three in the second box.

Yoakum baseball: Bulldogs fall in opener to Cuero

Clinging to a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third, the Cuero Gobblers scored two runs and then plated a run in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to deal Yoakum a 7-1 defeat Monday in Cuero.

Yoakum girls soccer: Lady 'Dogs get first district win

The Yoakum Lady Bulldogs soccer team picked up their first district win of the season with a 4-0 win over San Antonio Fox Tech Friday in Yoakum. Rubi Martinez netted two goals, Gisela Martinez added one goal and Yoakum got some help from Fox Tech when the Lady Buffaloes had an own goal.

Yoakum softball: Lady ‘Dogs softball win first two games, outscoring opponents 31-0

The Lady Bulldogs won their first two games of the season. Yoakum 10, Cuero 0 Hannah Schultz went 3-for-3 with a double and RBI, and pitched five innings with two hits and a shutout with six strikeouts as Yoakum won their regular-season opener 10-0 against Cuero at home Feb. 14.

Yoakum boys powerlifting: Bulldogs lifters take seventh in SA meet

The Yoakum boys powerlifting team competed in the Texas Strength Systems meet Thursday in San Antonio, earning seventh place. River Bergman came in second place in the 242-pound class with a 1220 total, 500 squat, 245 bench press and 475 deadlift.

FLORESVILLE — The Moulton Kittens have hustle and fight; what they lacked a little was experience. The Kittens battled the ‘DHanis Cowgirls in the 1A area round Friday evening at Floresville High School.

Shiner girls basketball: Lady Comanches beat Granger with second-half comeback

SMITHVILLE — The Lady Comanches had a not-so-good first half and they recognized it. Shiner took on Granger in the bi-district round Feb. 14 at Smithville and trailed 20-13 at halftime before coming back with a 26-15 rally in the second half to win 39-35 to advance to the second round.

Shiner boys basketball: Comanches edge Weimar 52-51

Carson Schuette drained four tres and scored 18 points to lead Shiner to a 52-51 win against Weimar Feb. 14 to cap the regular season. Ryan Peterson dropped down 14 points and three triples; Drew Wenske netted 11 points. and was 6-of-8 from the free-throw line.

Yoakum girls soccer: Lady 'Dogs get tie, loss in recent action

The Yoakum girls soccer earned a share of the spoils as they drew 1-1 with rivals Gonzales on Feb. 7. Alondra Reyes-Martinez was the goal scorer for the Lady Bulldogs. Yoakum lost to SA Kenedy 7-0 on Friday  and tied SA Young Women’s Leadership Academy 0-0 on Saturday.
