St. Paul Football: Cards rally for first win of season.

Zane Barta rushed for 150 yards and three touchdowns to lead St. Paul to a comeback 38-35 win at San Antonio TMI on Friday. TMI was ahead 35-14 at halftime, St Paul outscored TMI 16-0 in the third and then scored early in the fourth quarter for the win.

Shiner Football: Shiner shuts down Industrial in rebounding from season-opening loss

After a surprising loss in their opener last week, Shiner needed to get back on track and rebound quickly. The Comanches got back on the right path and quickly as they downed the Industrial Cobras 47-0 Friday evening in their first home game at Comanche Stadium.

The Shiner volleyball is reaping the benefits of playing as a unit. The Lady Comanches quickly demolish the Industrial Lady Cobras in three sets , 25-11, 25-14 and 25-11 Friday afternoon at home.

Yoakum Volleyball: Lady 'Dogs pick up two wins at Cuero Tournament

The Lady Bulldogs volleyball team won two matches and lost four in the Cuero Tournament last Friday and Saturday. Pool Play (Friday) Yoakum swept Nixon-Smiley 25-22, 25-20; lost to El Campo 25-17, 26-24; beat Waelder 25-9, 25-9. Bracket  Play (Saturday).

Yoakum CC: Several runners place in top 20

The Yoakum cross-country teams competed in the Industrial meet on Saturday with several varsity runners getting top 20 places. Varsity Girls Emily Sanchez took No. 12 with 14 minutes, 53 seconds and following was Sam Adamek in 154:58.

The Yoakum Bulldogs are on the road for the second straight week and head up north to Cameron Yoe. Yoakum is looking to even its season record after a close game at Industrial where it fell short 25-20. Yoe won its opener, a 71-35 rout of Lago Vista.

St. Paul Volleyball: Lady Cards win first district contest

The Lady Cardinals did not play relaxed at the start of their district opener against Cedar Park Summit Christian Academy Thursday at home. St. Paul did not stay that way the whole match and got the victory over CPCSA 3-0 (25-13, 25-6, 25-1).

Volleyball: Lady Comanches serve up sweep over St. Paul

The Lady Comanches serving was on point. Shiner beat cross-town opponent St. Paul in three games, 25-12, 25-15, 25-25-16 on Aug. 30. The Lady Comanches had 22 aces in the match. “We had been working on serve-receive and we served very aggressively,” Lady Comanches head coach Desiree Nitsch said.

The Lady Cardinals volleyball dropped a three-set match at Flatonia Aug. 16 and played five matches in the San Marcos Hill Country Tournament Aug. 19 and 20, winning one, tying one and losing three. Flatonia 3, St. Paul 0 St. Paul lost in three sets to Flatonia 25-19, 28-26, 25-14.
