Shiner Football: Comanches score twice against Burton, keep Panthers from scoring

The Shiner Comanches hosted Burton in their second and final scrimmage on Thursday evening. The scrimmage was cut short by several plays because of weather in the area. The Comanches scored twice, one by each offensive group, and kept the Burton offense out of the end zone.

Football: Cards host Flatonia; Shiner at Hallettsville

The season kicks off for the Cardinals and Comanches football team. The Cardinals start out at home against Flatonia; Shiner heads to Hallettsville for the usual season opener for county rival Hallettsville.

Yoakum football: Bulldogs open at Industrial

The Yoakum Bulldogs kick off the 2022 season with a trip out to Industrial to face down the Cobras. The Cobras return 16 lettermen and seven starters from their 11-3 regional finalist 2021 team and are slated for a runner-up finish in 15-3AD).

Yoakum volleyball: Lady 'Dogs win three at Schulenburg tournament

Yoakum posted a 3-5 record last weekend in the Schulenburg Tournament. Pool D Play (Thursday) The Lady ‘Dogs went 1-2 in Pool play on Thursday. Yoakum fell to Schulenburg in two sets, 25-22, 25-17. In their second match, they lost to Brazos 25-23, 25-21.

Shiner Volleyball: Lady Comanches defeat Edna in four games

Julie Ivy and Rylee Vancura combined for 27 kills to lead Shiner to a 3-1 (25-19, 25-15, 16-25, 25-15) win at Edna on Aug.. 16.

SCHULENBURG — The Lady Comanches won third place in the Silver Bracket Schulenburg Tournament last Thursday through Saturday, winning three and losing five matches.

The Shiner and St. Paul cross-country teams started the season Saturday in Yoakum with the each school’s girls varsity teams placing top five.

Yoakum cross country:Lady ‘Dogs come in third

The Yoakum cross-country team started the season with a home meet on Saturday. The varsity girls were the highlights with a third-place finish Varsity Girls The Lady Bulldogs recorded 92 points to win the team Bronze. Gisela Martinez led Yoakum with fifth place in 9 minutes, 58 seconds.

Moulton cross country: ‘Katz runners take third at Yoakum meet

The Moulton cross-country teams competed in their first meet of the season Saturday in Yoakum. The boys came in third place and the girls were in seventh place. Girls The Kittens scored a total of 176 points. Estefania Colchado led the team with seventh place in 10 minutes, 7 seconds.

St. Paul volleyball:St. Paul spikers open with sweep of BHS

The St. Paul Lady Cardinals won their 2022 season opener 3-0 (25-12, 25-13, 25-20) against Bloomington at home on Friday. Ashlyn Pesek had six kills, one block. Avery Pesek contributed four digs, one kill, one ace; Dallyn Pesek had 24 assists, three digs, two kills, two aces.
