Citizens speak out to council about stormwater incident

Two citizens spoke out to the Hallettsville city council regarding property damage due to stormwater infiltration in their house at the July 20 meeting.This incident occurred on June 5 to Benjamin and Melissa Leita.“This has been stressful,” Benjamin Leita said.

A stormy May brought heavy rains, wind damage and severe weather warnings to the area on several occasions.Storms on the 13th brought small hail, high winds over 50 mph, and frequent lightning.Several trees lost limbs in town.The month saw 3.

Storm causes severe wind damage in Yoakum

As storms hit the Yoakum community on May 13, members of the city Electrical Department worked power lines on Highland and Svoboda streets. Strong winds and sheets of rain were reported. Tree limbs and trash bins were scattered in several yards.

After the storm

Mother nature unleashed her fury Friday night, Feb. 2 as tornadic type winds passed through the Hallettsville area leaving a number of trees and limbs downed on county roads as well as storage buildings destroyed during the storm.

In addition, to approximately four-plus inches of rain the area received on Tuesday, May 9, an additional another approximate four inches fell Saturday, May 13 causing extensive flooding in low water crossings on county roads.
