Local schools to hold Veterans Day events

Several school districts in the area are preparing for Veterans Day programs on Monday, Nov. 11.The Yoakum Junior High School will be having a Veterans Day program the morning of Veterans Day.“We are planning on a having a presentation,” Yoakum Junior High Principal Gabe Adamek said.

Local man reminds others of the importance of Veterans Day

Veterans Day is next Monday, and a local Vietnam Veteran, Larry Kupka, is a strong advocate for the importance of that day.“Veterans Day is a day that shows honor to folks that volunteered to serve their country,” Kupka said.

Distinguished medals of honor awarded to veterans

Veterans Day is Monday and is a day where we as Americans honor every veteran who has ever served in the United States Armed Forces.Throughout Lavaca County as well as the state and across the nation, many communities hold very meaningful special ceremonies to honor the veterans.
Lavaca County veterans have been asked to turn out at Monday's commissioners court in a show of support for the county's talks on hiring a new veterans service officer. A committee of local veterans was appointed last month and from what we hear, a nomination should be forthcoming at that meeting.

The Vietnam Veterans of America Lone Star Chapter 854 and the Lavaca Memorial Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6382 conducted Memorial Day ceremonies Monday morning at the Sacred Heart Family Center with Lt. Col. USAF (retired) Jerry Tanner serving as the guest speaker.

20th annual Veterans Appreciation Day is April 20

The 20th Annual Veterans Appreciation Day dinner will take place on Saturday, April 20 at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Hallettsville.Doors will open at 11 a.m. with the program starting at noon along with a meal being served.

The Vietnam Veterans Chapter 854 is completing the final step in refurbishing our Veteran’s Memorial. The helicopter is being repainted by DLC Aircraft Restoration Services from San Antonio and is in progress 3 steps to complete.
