The Yoakum softball team defeated Rice last week and took a tough loss to Hallettsville this past Monday, both home contests.

Girls soccer: girls soccer players win district awards

Several members of the Yoakum girls soccer team received All-District Awards. Cameron Williams was named Co-Defensive MVP. Gisela Martinez and Williams received First Team awards. Aubrie Jendrzey and Anna Ramirez earned Second Team honors.

The Lady Bulldogs improved on their district record last week with wins over Tidehaven and Edna. Yoakum 8, Tidehaven 1 A five-run fifth inning helped give the Lady ‘Dogs an 8-1 district win over Tidehaven at home March 28.

Yoakum produced the hits but just not enough runs. The Bulldogs hosted Tidehaven in a district game, coming up short 8-5. “Every district game we play is going to be a good game,”  Bulldogs head coach Karl Saenz said.

The Yoakum track and field teams competed in the Bloomington Bobcat Relays on Thursday and had relays teams in Austin over the weekend at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays. Bloomington Varsity Girls Yoakum scored 31 points for eighth place. 800 — 3rd, Cameron Williams, 2:43.

All four Yoakum High School track teams got top three at the Ro-Hawk Relays on Thursday, Varsity Girls The Lady Bulldogs registered 98 points for runner up. 100 — 6th, Olivia Fojt, 13.52. 200 — 9th, Makayla Olemedo, 29.80. 400 — 9th, Olemedo, 1:10.58. 800 — 5th, Samantha Adamek, 2:35.

The Bulldogs lost to Columbus and routed Palacios in district games last week. Columbus 3, Yoakum 0 The Columbus Cardinals scored a trio of fifth-inning runs to escape the Yoakum Bulldogs 3-0 on Wednesday.

The Lady Bulldogs split spring-break district games against Hallettsville, Industrial. Hallettsville 5, Yoakum 2 The Lady Brahmas plated two runs in the fifth inning and scored one run in sixth frame to turn a 2-2 tie into a 5-2 win March 14 in Hallettsville.

Several Lady Yoakum basketball players received 25-3A All District awards. Jayana Phillips and Olivia Fojt each got First Team. Destiny Rios and Samantha Adamek got Second Team. Addison Pekar got Honorable Mention.
